The aim of the Gippsland Ethnic communities’ Council is to encourage understanding, develop goodwill and promote harmony within our culturally diverse community.
Objectives:
1) to provide opportunities for people of culturally diverse backgrounds to come together;
2) to provide advisory, counselling, support and advocacy services to members of our culturally diverse community;
3) to provide government at the local, state and federal level with a channel of communication with Gippsland culturally diverse organisations;
4) to influence government policy and practice at all levels in order to secure adequate and prompt service provision;
5) to advise Gippsland agencies of the cultural, educational, health, legal, social and welfare needs of residents of culturally diverse background and to secure from those agencies adequate, equitable and prompt access to, as well as delivery of, services;
6) to promote awareness of the cultural values, of the past contribution and of the future needs of people from diverse backgrounds in Gippsland;
7) to develop programmes which will encourage people of any origin, sex, condition, age and culture to retain their heritage and so to optimise the benefits of cultural diversity for all Australians.
