The GECC is a volunteer based non-profit organisation.  Our volunteer members represent different ethnic groups in the community.  The GECC members are active in a number of projects in the community. 

One of the major projects and events it organises is the annual Gippsland Multicultural Festival that takes place in the Immigration Park in March.  

2008 Festival: The Gippsland Immigration Wall of Recognition Multicultural festival 2008 won the Latrobe City community event of the year.  

2010 Festival:  The Gippsland Immigration Wall of Recognition Multicultural and Youth festival 2010 was a finalist in the Latrobe City Business Tourism Association's People's Choice Awards.  

2010 GECC Organisation: The Gippsland Ethnic Communities' Council received a Latrobe City 2011 Australia Day Award for outstanding service made to the community of Latrobe City.  

2011 Festival and Chairperson: The Gippsland Ethnic Communities' Council's 3-Day Multicultural Festival is a co-winner for the Latrobe City 2012 Australia Day Award for Community Event of the Year. Furthermore, the GECC Chairperson received a Latrobe City Recognition Award in the Citizen of the Year Category at this ceremony.  

2012 Festival: The 2012 3-day GECC Multicultural Festival received a Latrobe City Recognition Award in the Community Event of the Year Category at the 2013 Australia Day ceremony in Kernot Hall in January 2013. 

2013 Festival: The 2012 3-day GECC Multicultural Festival received a Latrobe City Recognition Award in the Community Event of the Year Category at the 2014 Australia Day ceremony in Kernot Hall in January 2014.

2018 GECC Organisation: The Gippsland Ethnic Communities' Council received a Latrobe City Recognition Award for Community Service on Australia Day 2019.

 Announcements:

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our Life Member, Mr. Egon Luetjens on 18th April 2021.  He will be greatly missed.  Our sincere condolences to his family.
